Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
HypnosisMore and more people are turning to hypnosis to overcome a wide range of
conditions and problems.
Perhaps there is an apprehension about not being in control whilst in
hypnosis. It is important to note that you are always in control, aware of
what is being said, and cannot be hypnotised against your will.
Most clients say they feel very relaxed and comfortable whilst in
hypnosis. In fact we all go into hypnosis on a daily basis. Have you ever day
dreamed, or found yourself having driven somewhere and forgotten part
of the way?
HypnotherapyHow would you like to really be in control of how you think, feel and behave?
Imagine what it could be like if you were the person you really deserve to be?
Many people believe they are stuck with who they are, thinking they just cannot change "I am what I am". Nothing could be further from the real truth. When people realise how they can change, the first thing they usually say is "I wish I had done this sooner".
Hypnotherapy allows your conscious mind to drift off whilst your
unconscious mind pays great attention to what is being said. We make
changes at the unconscious level always, so it makes sense to allow
yourself to relax and let your unconscious mind do the work for you.
We often have limiting beliefs in life that hold us back. Maybe we know
consciously when the problem began, but are not sure why. Hypnosis allows
us to change perceptions, and ‘change the script’ we have been living by to
a script that we would like.
Hypnotherapy can help with almost any problem you can think of, such as
breaking unwanted habits, anxiety, and stress, compulsive disorders,
phobias, emotional or guilt feelings, jealousy, weight problems and smoking.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)NLP is based on modelling the techniques of successful people and using
these techniques to help other people achieve their own goals. NLP means
success. It is about knowing that whatever someone else can do
successfully, you can do too, and create a strong belief in yourself by
learning the techniques that not only make profound changes, but allow
you to realise your full skills and potential.
Hypnosis combined with NLP is fast and effective. A good therapist is
trained to help the client become quickly empowered and independent so
that they can get on with their lives.
Choosing the right therapistThe most important thing to consider is the rapport you have with a therapist. When you talk to them on the phone, are they saying the right things to you? Does what they offer sound right to you? Are they offering just one session and making claims that they can ‘cure' you in one session?
Therapists are trained in different ways, and there are good training providers and not so good. The not so good ones offer a one week training course, and expect their students to go out and help people. They often make claims that therapists can earn a fortune in one week. The truth is therapists need to build a good reputation and this can take years of ongoing training and experience. This is not to say that therapists who have been trained well and are starting out cannot help others successfully, but these kinds of newly qualified therapists know that it takes some time to establish a good reputation. Would you consult anyone who only had one week of training? Would wild claims invite you or encourage you to see that person.
Fortunately the poorly trained therapists don’t tend to last long in business, which is a good thing. Those that continue their studies in professional development create a good reputation by word of mouth.
If you don’t know anyone who has seen a hypnotherapist who they can recommend you to, here are some pointers and questions you might want to ask in an initial telephone conversation.
How long have they been training and who with? What accreditations do they have? Are these accreditations externally verified which means that outside verifiers look at students work rather than just the providers. Most training providers will say they belong to a ‘body’, but it might be that the ‘body’ just registers them but never looks at the students work or assesses the training.
Some therapists specialise in certain areas which means they would have had much experience in that field or had extensive training. Asking as many questions as you can initially will save you time and expense. There is nothing more disappointing than feeling as though you have wasted your time and money and not having any satisfaction from the therapy. Each therapist may charge different amounts for a session perhaps in the way that hairdressers charge different amounts. In therapy you will hopefully get what you pay for. The therapists who charge higher prices may be more experienced and have had more training than others, but you can only find this out if you ask the right questions. If someone is very cheap, it might be that they are not fully qualified or that they have little experience. These people often do just one session and never expect to see you again. On the other hand, if any therapists tells you that you need extensive sessions, ie more than four to begin with, then question what the reason would be for them to make the statement.
I am always happy to answer any questions before you commit to any sessions.
